Stamp methods

Scan a customer’s card or type its code

Open a customer’s card at the till with the camera, by typing the twelve-character code, or with a handheld barcode scanner.

Updated

Every customer’s card has its own code. Opening it on the till is how your team gives several stamps at once, uses a reward, or helps a customer whose request didn’t come through. There are three ways to open it: the camera, typing the code, or a handheld barcode scanner.

What the customer shows

The customer opens their card and taps Show card. Their phone shows a QR code, the card’s code underneath in three groups of four characters (for example K7Q2 M9XP 3ABC), and “Show this at the counter”. The screen stays bright while it’s open. If they’ve added the card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, the pass shows the same QR code.

Scan with the camera

  1. On the Give stamps tab, tap Start scanning. The first time, the browser asks to use the camera: allow it.
  2. Point the camera at the code on the customer’s phone. “Point at the code on the customer’s phone” shows until it reads.
  3. The customer’s card opens in the sheet.

In a dim spot, tap Torch if your device has one. The camera reads the QR code on the screen of any phone.

If you point it at the wrong thing, the till says so for a few seconds: “That’s a poster. Scan the code on the customer’s phone.” or “That isn’t a NextStamp card.”

Type the code

When the camera can’t read the code, typing always works:

  1. Tap Type a code instead.
  2. Enter the twelve characters under the QR code in Card code, then tap Open card.

Spaces and dashes don’t matter, and a whole card link works too. Codes never use 0, O, 1, I or L, so there’s no mixing up a zero and an O, or a one and an L.

Use a handheld barcode scanner

A USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner that works as a keyboard needs no setup. On the Give stamps tab, just scan the customer’s code: the till is always listening, and says so. It recognises a scan by keys arriving very fast and ending in Enter or Tab, so typing on a keyboard as normal isn’t mistaken for one. It doesn’t listen while you’re typing in a field, or while a customer’s sheet or the outlet picker is open.

Once the card is open

The sheet shows the customer’s name, card and progress. Choose how many stamps (when the card allows more than one a visit) and tap Add 1 stamp, or use a reward under Rewards ready. If the customer also asked from the poster, the sheet says so, and giving stamps here answers that request.

If the till says “Card not found here”, the code isn’t an active card at your business: check it’s your card and not another business’s. Scanning a card at an outlet where it doesn’t work, or at a limit, is refused with the reason. See stamp limits per visit and per day.

Codes outside the till

A card’s QR code is a link. If someone on your team opens it with the phone’s own camera while signed in, NextStamp opens your till with that card. If the customer opens it, it goes to their own card. Anyone else sees only that it’s a NextStamp loyalty card to show at the counter. The code holds no name, email or stamp count.

When the camera won’t start at all, see fix common till problems. For the whole till screen, see using the till.
