Using the till

The till screen from top to bottom: choosing the outlet, the camera, the customer sheet, Waiting, Just now and Undo.

Updated

The till is the screen your team works from at the counter. It runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer, and everyone on your team can use it at the outlets they work at. It does four things: scans customers’ cards, answers requests from the till poster and tap tags, adds stamps, and uses rewards.

Open the till

Tap Give stamps in the tab bar. On a phone with the business app installed, a long press on its icon offers Give stamps too. The screen stays awake while the till is open, so it doesn’t dim between customers.

Which outlet this is

The till works for one outlet at a time. With more than one outlet, its name shows at the top; tap it to open Which outlet is this? and pick. The device remembers the choice, and from then on it hears requests for that outlet, even while someone is on another screen of the app.

If you have no outlet yet, the till says so: owners and admins get a button to add one, and everyone else is asked to have an admin add them to one.

The screen, top to bottom

  • Double stamps, when a campaign is on: a banner such as “Double stamps on Coffee Card until 17:00. The bonus is added by itself.”
  • Deals, while one is on at this outlet: a banner naming it and until when. In a customer’s card, a switch beside each deal marks it with the stamps you give; leave it off unless they’re having it. See run a deal on a combo or new item.
  • The camera. Tap Start scanning the first time; the browser asks for the camera. Point it at the code on the customer’s phone. A Torch button appears on phones that have one. Type a code instead opens a field for the card’s code. See scan a customer’s card or type its code.
  • Waiting. Requests from customers that were closed without an answer.
  • Just now. The last five things the till did at this outlet, with Undo.

The customer sheet

Scanning a card, or a request arriving, opens the customer sheet. It shows the customer’s name, their card and progress, such as “3 of 10 · A free coffee at 10”, any tier, and the deadline if the card expires.

  • To give stamps, tap Add 1 stamp (for a scanned card) or Approve 1 stamp (for a request). When the card allows more than one a visit, a stepper and quick amounts let you choose how many.
  • To use a reward, find it under Rewards ready, tap Use, then Confirm. See give a customer their reward.
  • To say no to a request, pick a reason under Or say no, and tell them why: “Already stamped for this visit”, “Not at the till”, “Wrong card or customer” or “No reason”. The customer’s phone shows it.

After an answer, the sheet closes by itself a moment later, unless the customer has a reward they could use here.

Undo a stamp

Tap Undo beside a stamp in Just now, pick a reason (“Given by mistake”, “Wrong customer” or “Wrong number of stamps”) and tap Undo stamp. The customer’s phone tells them why. You can undo stamps you approved yourself within 10 minutes; people allowed to correct stamps can undo anyone’s. A stamp can’t be undone once it earned a reward, or once the card has newer activity, and a used reward stays used. For older mistakes, see look up a customer and adjust stamps.

Requests on other screens

A device that works a till gets customers’ requests on every screen of the business app, not only the Give stamps tab. The sheet opens by itself with a chime. Away from the Give stamps tab, the sheet also offers Stop requests on this device, for a phone that isn’t at the counter; opening the Give stamps tab turns them back on. Only on the Give stamps tab does Enter approve a request. Stamp requests from the till poster covers requests in full.

Keyboard and scanner shortcuts

On the Give stamps tab, a handheld barcode scanner works without tapping anything first: just scan the customer’s code. When a request’s sheet is open on the Give stamps tab, Enter approves it.
