Edit a live card: drafts and publishing
Change a card customers already hold: what applies to everyone at once, what waits for new rounds, and discarding a draft.
Once customers hold your card, changing it needs care: someone halfway to a free coffee shouldn’t find the goalposts moved. NextStamp handles this by editing a draft beside the live card, and by applying each kind of change in the fairest way when you publish.
Start a draft
Open the card from Overview → Loyalty cards. A live card shows its current settings, one per row: the reward, rewards along the way, what new customers get, where it works, the limits, the expiry and whether it asks for reviews, with the terms underneath. Tap Edit card.
The editor opens a draft. While it exists:
- the card’s page says “You have unpublished changes. Customers see the current card until you publish.”
- the card shows Live · changes on the Overview
- customers and your till keep using the live card exactly as it was
Save draft keeps your edits for later. Only owners and admins can edit a card.
Publish the changes
Tap Publish changes. NextStamp checks every rule first, then asks you to confirm, because a live card affects people who already hold it. The confirmation explains what will happen, and adds a line naming any outlet you’ve taken the card away from.
After you confirm, the page says: “Published. New customers get these changes now; limits apply to everyone.”
What changes for whom
| Change | New customers | Customers already on the card |
|---|---|---|
| Stamps per visit and per day | At once | At once |
| Where it works | At once | At once: outlets taken off stop giving stamps and taking rewards |
| Asking for reviews | At once | At once |
| A dated card’s first and last day | At once | At once, for rounds already open |
| Stamps to fill the card | At once | From their next round |
| Rewards and rewards along the way | At once | From their next round |
| Card expiry | At once | From their next round |
| Welcome stamps and welcome reward | When they join | Not given again |
| Terms | Accepted when they join | Shown on their card from their next round |
The rule of thumb: the counter’s rules (limits, where it works, reviews) apply to everyone straight away, while anything that shapes a round (stamps, rewards, expiry) applies to rounds started from now on. Customers part-way through keep their current round until it’s full or resets, so nobody loses stamps they already have.
Discard a draft
Changed your mind? Discard changes asks “Discard your changes?”, then puts the card back to what customers see now. Your unpublished edits are deleted.
Changes that don’t need publishing
- Lifetime tiers save straight away. See add lifetime tiers to a card.
- Posters and tap tags are managed on the card’s page at any time.
- First scan is a business-wide setting in Settings, not part of the card. See choose what a first scan does.
- Your logo is part of your business details.
Good habits
- Tell your team before tightening a limit, so they’re not surprised at the till when a second stamp is refused.
- If you’re raising the stamps needed to fill the card, consider a sweetener, such as a reward along the way, so the new round feels fair.
- When you change what the card gives, say so at the counter. Customers see the new reward on their next round, and a word from your team explains it.
For the limits themselves, see stamp limits per visit and per day. For expiry, see set a card to expire.
